MU Philosophy Alumnus Joseph Bartzel Named Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellow

University of Missouri alumnus Joseph Bartzel has been named one of 21 Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellows for 2018 by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.

Joe is a 2001 MU graduate in philosophy, now a Religious studies Ph.D. candidate at Indiana University Bloomington, completing his dissertation, titled From Riot to Reconciliation: The Ferguson Commission and the Future of St. Louis. His dissertation envisions the collective retelling of history as a means to racial reconciliation.

The Newcombe Fellowship is the nation’s largest and most prestigious award for Ph.D. candidates in the humanities and social sciences addressing questions of ethical and religious values. More information here:
