Mizzou Philosophy Club’s Inaugural Meeting: A Resounding Success
April 11, 2024, marked the much-anticipated inaugural meeting of the Mizzou Philosophy Club, where students and faculty gathered in Middlebush 310 to fraternize, enjoy free pizza, and listen to a fascinating talk by philosophy PhD candidate Christian Culak, who spoke on the topic of compassion. Afterward, a discussion was held in which attendees interacted with each other and the speaker. Culak brought up some pertinent questions regarding the extension of compassion to animal rights, which stimulated insightful and spirited conversation.
The event was met with overwhelming success, with almost 50 students from many different backgrounds and majors (psychology, pre-med, pre-law, health sciences, computer science, etc.) attending and participating. Faculty members Mike Schneider, Hannah Rubin, Kenneth Boyce, and Troy Hall (the club’s faculty sponsor) also came out to support the club.
By the time the meeting was adjourned, it was clear that a good time had been held by all and that the Mizzou Philosophy Club’s inaugural meeting was no doubt a resounding success. This is only the beginning of more interesting and informative events to come. If you are interested in taking part in the fun, please consider joining us here.
