We are pleased to announce that an alumna of our department, Lynn Chiu (Ph.D., 2015), was recently awarded the 2017 Werner Callebaut Prize by the International Society for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Biology (ISHPSSB).  

Lynn was selected for this prize as a result of her collaborative work with biologist Scott F Gilbert leading to the publication of their co-authored paper "The Birth of the Holobiont: Multi-species Birthing Through Mutual Scaffolding and Niche Construction" in the journal Biosemiotics and their presentation of that paper at the 2015 ISHPSSB Montreal conference.
