Florence G. Kline Professor and Curators’ Distinguished Professor of Philosophy Gualtiero Piccinini has been awarded the 2026 Covey Award by the International Association for Computing and Philosophy (IACAP). The Covey Award recognizes senior scholars with a substantial record of innovative research in the field of computing and philosophy.

The board recognizes the significant contributions Professor Piccinini has made to the scholarship on issues such as the nature of computation and cognition, and the philosophical relevance of cognitive neuroscience, as well as the importance of his sustained role in leading and organizing the philosophical community on these and other topics.

Along with the award, Dr. Piccinini will present the Covey Award Keynote Address at the IACAP 2026 Conference being held July 15-17 at the University of Kansas, in Lawrence, Kansas.

With this award, Dr. Piccinini is the first person to be awarded all three of the major awards in the philosophy of computation. Those other awards are the Simon Award (2014), which recognizes scholars early in their careers, and the K. Jon Barwise Prize (2018), which recognizes significant and sustained contributions to areas relevant to philosophy and computing.
