Dr. Markie named new Chancellor's Professor
Distinguished Curators' Teaching Professor Peter Markie is retiring in September but will continue his association with the Department as a Chancellor’s Professor, a position the Chancellor created for select retired professors. Dr. Markie has a PhD from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and is interested in epistemology, ethics and the philosophy of the mind. He began teaching in the Philosophy Department at MU in 1976. Dr. Markie was the Philosophy Department chair from 1989 to 1993 and served as vice provost for undergraduate studies from 1999 to 2002, after being interim assistant provost for a year. Dr. Markie published four books and over 45 articles and reviews. He has presented his research all over the country throughout his time at MU. The Philosophy Department would like to thank Dr. Markie for over 40 years of teaching excellence, student mentorship and academic contributions to the field of Philosophy. Dr. Markie, all of us in the Philosophy Department wish you good luck in your new role.
