Abstract:

This talk explores the question of whether and how AI might conduct scientific inquiry independently of human guidance.  I explore some prominent success stories and explore the ways that human values organize inquiry.  We will see some of the limitations of current AI- driven research and will thereby learn some of the ways that it is most appropriately deployed in scientific practice
